Cole Hillman's Arizona ranch, in the decimation of the local coyote population, has been overrun by what have become feral rabbits, wreaking havoc in more ways than one. He doesn't want to use poison to kill them fearing that solution worse than the problem. He consults with his friend, local college president Elgin Clark, who believes he has the people for the job. Visiting scholars, husband and wife Roy and Gerry Bennett, have been doing research on biological methods of pest control, and although their current research looks at bats to control the mosquito population, they believe they may be able to find a biological method to control the rabbits. Wanting to test their theory of hormones to disrupt the rabbits' reproduction, Roy and Gerry capture a few of the rabbits to bring into their laboratory. In her love of rabbits, the Bennetts' adolescent daughter, Amanda Bennett, accidentally allows one of the rabbits that had been injected with an experimental serum to escape back into the wild. What happens is that a mutation occurs within that one rabbit spreading through the wild rabbit population creating a race of giant killer rabbits who maul and mutilate their largely human prey. The collective have to find a way to kill these giant killer rabbits before they decimate the local human population, with Gerry and Amanda's lives in greater risk as they become separated from Roy and anyone who may be able to help them.—Huggo
