As Ada plans to renovate and sell the house built and long 'haunted' by Ezra Enshaw, Aurora recalls how she accepted a challenge to enter it -with chicken Sally- from teen buddies Arthur and Jack, assuming they staged the spookiness, but found the actual stairs-fell-killed corpse of renowned ghost hunter Frank Brunelli in a hidden basement. This inspires her, Nick and Philip to urge reopening the case, which was closed without proper investigation, and conclude murder. The murder club looks into the local chapter of the Paranormal Society, which includes fellow librarian Lillian and Frank's brother and heir Anthony Brunelli, as well as atypically renovation-interested local developer Tom Wilkie and contractor Reggie Hunter, plus Ezra's surviving neighbor Mona Dilger, whose husband Linden had a fatal heart attack, and daughter Tamara Dilger, who recently moved home to take care of her. They persevere despite scary break-in message, and finally set a trap after linking the case to an old robbery.—KGF Vissers
