Monsters and aliens roam on a desert-like planet. A portal of red light activates, and a ship flies through, emerging out of a mountainside and flying over a forest.Glen Craven (Tim Wade), and Lily Lantz (Emily Sweet), are young UFO investigators preparing to document the phenomenon of strange lights and reports of alien activity on Mount Adams, Washington. They speak at a UFO convention, outlining the plan for their next expedition and what they expect to find. The next day they head out, bringing along their camera crew and assistants. On the first day, they conduct interviews with the locals living around the mountain. They are warned to be careful of the red lights and what comes out of them. Before they head to the mountain they meet up with their guide, Ranger Bill Jefferson (Greg James). He takes them to a closed-off trail and tells them that no one is allowed farther up because people have been going missing. Determined to get as close to the phenomena as possible, Lily bribes the ranger to lead them up the mountain. The trail quickly deteriorates until there is no clear path to follow. The team accuses Ranger Bill of being lost, but he assures them that he knows the way. That night they set up camp and the team heads up to a rocky peak to get some footage. They observe the lights, which look like a portal, and the cameraman Blake (Phillip Wade) catches an alien ship on camera. The excited team trek back down to camp, where they discover that Bill is missing. One of the team members, Kim, (Allesondra Helwig) finds Bill's shoe...but it's bloody. The team's radios can't reach anyone off the mountain, so they decide to hunker down for the night and look for Bill in the morning. The next morning Glen and his assistant Thomas (Matthew O'Donnell) find Bill's body. It looks like he was torn apart by an animal. The team panics. They don't know the way back, but they make the decision to pack up and head down the mountain without their guide. An alien bug crosses their path and bites Kim's leg. Thomas kills the creature. They set up camp for a second night. They joke around the fire until a clawed arm lunges out of the darkness and grabs Blake by the shoulder. He's dragged off into the woods, and his girlfriend Candie (Alysse Fozmark) gives chase a short way, screaming. Her screams draw the monster away from Blake but lead it to her. Candie is killed and dragged off into the woods. Blake is far from his team and lost in the night. In the morning what remains of the team pull themselves together and head out again. By nightfall they are still lost, so they set up camp with a cliff at their backs. Glen stays up on watch but starts to nod off. Three alien monsters close in on them while he sleeps. Glen wakes up just in time to spear one in the eye with a sharpened stick before it can grab him. The monsters leave, and the team waits until morning to leave.Meanwhile, Blake is out in the woods alone, searching for his team.Kim's leg is worse. She looks like she's fading. The team carries her as they try to find their way home. When the sun starts to set, Glen and Thomas search for a safe campsite. Thomas engages Glen in horseplay, causing him to slip off a cliffside. Glen's shoulder is wounded after he rolls to the base of the cliff. Shortly after, Thomas sees an old hunter's cabin and leaves Glen to get Lily and Kim.Blake is prepping to survive another night in the woods alone when he sees a red light in the distance. Thinking it's his team, he sets out toward it.The team is safe in the cabin as the sun sets, but Kim is still fading. Darkness falls. The three monsters appear, closing in on the cabin.Blake finds the source of the light and discovers it's not his team's campfire. It's an alien portal. Mesmerized, he steps through it and disappears. The team sets up a watch for the night, and Thomas goes first. He falls asleep. A monster attacks the cabin, waking him up and causing him to fall to the floor, where he then scrambles under the bed. The rest of the team wakes, and Thomas discovers three guns in his hiding spot, which he quickly hands to Glen and Lily. The monsters surround the cabin while Glen, Lily, and Thomas take aim through the window. Lily kills one of the monsters and the other two briefly retreat. The second monster leaps onto the roof and begins pulling up shingles, forming a hole. Glen and Lily shoot it and it falls to the ground, where Glen finishes it off.The last monster comes for them, but they are out of ammo. The team frantically searches the cabin and finds three sticks of dynamite. They form a desperate plan - they'll light the dynamite in the cabin and run out, hoping that it will blow up the monster once they're at a safe distance. The last monster charges at the cabin. Lily lights the dynamite, then the team dashes out the cabin door, supporting Kim. They run to the tree line and look back. The monster rips boards off the window...and finally, the dynamite explodes. The last monster is dead. The team keeps walking until they find an old forest road. They follow it down the mountain, toward safety and survival.
