The film begins in a toy store, where a man called Andrew goes for a unicorn toy for his daughter only to find out it costs more than he thought. He complains and threatens to go to Toys R Us to buy the toy, before the guy behind him buys it instead. Andrew drives home to find that his neighbour has decorated both their houses in Christmas decorations, including a urinating Santa. Inside the house, his wife is on the phone to her mother, before Andrew complains about the lights and his wife tells him to go and talk to the neighbour. Andrew then takes his wife's advice and complains to their neighbour about the lights, but the neighbour just doesn't understand. That evening, Andrew cannot sleep due to the lights being on and bright and he goes to write a negative letter to the neighbour, but his wife stops him. The next morning, Andrew pretends that the council complained about the decorations and takes them down. Andrews wife then comes outside and Andrew tells her that he got a chemistry set for Emily instead, but she complains that the unicorn was the first thing on Emilys list. After having a little quarrel, Andrew answers the door and it was the neighbour called Dev tells them that he found a unicorn toy online, they just have to go and collect it from Carlisle, which is 4 hours away and eventually, after some convincing, Andrew agrees to go with Dev to collect it. So Dev and Andrew go on a road trip and Dev eats moams and soda. The next shot is of Christmas lights on the car, playing the tune to Stop the Cavalry, which eventually ends. The duo then find themselves stuck in traffic, but Dev tells Andrew to go on a diversion, but the Sat Nav tells them to go back on themselves. Once they find themselves in the middle of the woods, the Sat Nav tells them to go in a different direction, before coming across a Ford in the road and Dev tells Andrew to drive through the flood. Andrew attempts but gets the car stuck. To make matters worse, Dev opens the door and lets all the water in and Andrew tells him not to do anything. Andrew tries to call for help on the roof and get connection. Dev notices the parking break is on and the car moves off and Andrew falls off the roof into the water. The duo then get back on the road and Dev finds Andrew some dry clothes. Dev talks to a woman who works at a burger restaurant called Jessie and Andrew reveals his clothes as those of an elf. Jessie then tells them the card isn't working and goes back to see if it works, which it does. An elderly gentleman walks up to them and asks for something, Dev gives him his milkshake and encourages Andrew to pay him money, so Andrew gives him £10. The next shot is of Dev filling the car up with Diesel, before it conks out and Andrew tells him it isn't a diesel powered car. Dev asks a man if he could use his Kawasaki machine and the man agrees, but Andrew disagrees. Back in the car, Andrew FaceTimes his wife, saying that they aren't going to make it. Dev sits sadly in a roadside service, before Andrew arrives with the Kawasaki. The duo finally make it, but when the man who works behind the till scans the card and tells them that there isn't a reservation under the card and Dev sees it belongs to Jessica Hughes and realises it is the woman from the burger bar and runs away from them and gets in her car. Unfortunately, the Kawasaki doesn't go fast and Andrew wants to call the police, but Dev tells him not to and says that he is going to save the day. Back at the burger bar, Dev tricks a co-worker into giving him Jessie's address and the two get back in the repaired car. When they arrive, Dev tries breaking in with a debit card and it snaps. Dev is about to try again, before Andrew points out a key under the door mat and the two break in. The duo sneak upstairs, when Jessica arrives home and comes into her daughters bedroom and Dev and Andrew hide in the closet with the unicorn. Once Jessica walks out the door, Dev and Andrew see that the girl is very sick and has come home from hospital, so they decide to leave the toy with her. Back in the roadside services, Andrew writes a letter, pretending to be Santa, explaining why she won't be receiving a unicorn this year. The two have a quick go on the arcades and Dev notices a sparklehoof unicorn toy in a claw machine. Dev attempts time after time to get it, but fails. Eventually, Andrew asks people to donate money so he can get the sparklehoof, but no one does. Whilst walking out, the old man comes up to them and gives them money for one more go. The claw goes down, picks up the unicorn and lets go. The unicorn drops right into the slot and the two celebrate in victory. The duo have a jolly sing song on the way back and Dev notices they are out of moams and Andrew tells him he has some yogurt coated raisins. Dev opens up the bag and finds the note Andrew wrote earlier and Andrew says it isn't Christmas yet, but Dev counts down and as soon as it is midnight, Dev reads the negative letter and Andrew explains why he wrote it and admits there was no call from the council either and Dev puts on the Christmas tunes to make him feel better. Back home, Dev walks home and Andrew walks back into his house and shows his wife the toy and they hug. That night, Andrew can't sleep again, but this time, it's because the lights aren't on. The following morning, a depressed Dev pours his cereal, but keeps hearing cars honking their horns, so he walks outside and sees that Andrew has put the lights back on and Andrew invites Dev to their house for Christmas.
